Paul Boupha

Seems like I’ve become addicted to traveling abroad, but I feel that I should capitalize on my ability to do so while I still have the chance in college. My life will be consumed by my career in the next few years so I’ll have to enjoy the time I have left…sigh. How moderately cynical.

Here are my early tentative summer plans:

  • 1 week in Seattle after finals
  • Shanghai, China: June 22 – August 17
  • Bangkok, Thailand: August 17 – August 31
  • Dublin, Ireland: August 31 – September 16
  • Contemplating visiting the European continent or the UK again…
  • Return to Seattle at least one week prior to school

Shanghai – I’ll be studying Chinese business and intensive Chinese language. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to fly up to the Beijing Olympics and bask in the environment of the city. I know I probably won’t be able to get into the games, but I’d buy souvenirs nonetheless.

Bangkok – I’d visit family, get a haircut, buy cheap clothes, etc. etc. I’m planning to meet my mom up here so I won’t be missing out on my Vegas family for the entire 7 months away from home.

Dublin – I’m taking another short seminar class abroad, but this time the focus is on global marketing which fits into my major. The class isn’t just focused in Dublin, rather this is where we’re meeting then we’ll be backpacking throughout all the isle. Last time I was in Europe I told myself that I wanted to see more of the countryside. Hopefully this time around in Ireland I’ll get to see some breathtaking landscapes.

Europe/UK? – Since plane tickets are relatively cheap, I’m wondering if I should return to England and buy a Manchester United cap for my dad. He was really disappointed that I couldn’t get one for him last time. I wonder what other portions of Europe I could also explore. Maybe Brussels? Amsterdam? Spain? I feel like I’ve already exhausted all I’ve wanted to see in Europe, but the ticket prices are just too cheap that I don’t know if I’ll be able to resist!

All of this sounds really expensive and …yes it is; I won’t deny. But I feel like I’ve worked hard in school for both my grades and toward bettering my chances in a future career, so why not reward myself if I have the capacity to do so? I’ve talked it over with my parents and they are encouraging it for the most part. I’ve become so independent that when I return to Las Vegas this time around, I’m not sure if they’d even recognize their own son. Is this for the better? Who knows. Overall, I just know that I’m growing by leaps and bounds and embarking on this last adventure, I’ll only become stronger as a result.
