The weekend thus far has felt…adult-esque.

On Friday, I met Travis’s friends that he met while teaching in Korea, and it felt very international. The entire group basically didn’t know each other, and we were forced to have ‘those’ kind of conversations. It wasn’t bad. In actuality, it felt like I was studying abroad again and meeting those types of people. They were also recent graduates, and after rejection from about 20 companies, one of the guys managed to score a position in Gyeonggi province in Korea. This gives me hope in doing the same. Except, replace Korea with Taiwan.

Saturday: went to Nathan’s going away bbq. He is moving to Hong Kong until January to study abroad. This makes me pretty jealous, although I am definitely not a fan of the Hong Kong-ish personality type. Just being able to travel is enough. I also found out that Tiff was moving to Shanghai and Jen to New York. In particular, she is moving to some apartment near Wall Street and hasn’t even gotten a job yet. She is just moving out there and pursuing a dream. That takes guts, and I admire that. There are a few others I know from Seattle who are actually doing the exact same thing, and I have to hand it to them, they have earned my respect in that sense. Whether they succeed or not is a different story, but just going out there is enough.

Afterward, I had a conversation with my friend who is in the process of starting up his own company. He asked me if I would be able to help him head up his sales division, and I told him that I was interested though he should contact me later if he was serious-serious because I am definitely willing. We will see if he follows through, and that will show me if he is truly committed to working hard – working for real. I have had my fair share of people who SAY things, but never make things actually HAPPEN. I hope he will be able to differentiate.

Lastly, I spent the majority of the day helping Eric and Wilson move into their new downtown apartment on First Hill. I discovered that this place is, seriously, the most Euro trendy building that I have been to since moving to Seattle. I was…to say the least…blown out of my mind! Their complex has a mix of young professionals, international students, and families. Amenities include: swimming pool, hot tub, free WiFi, water utilities paid, free printer/copier service, a computer room, 3 tanning stations, decked out gym, DVD theatre room (with actual theatre seating!), and the best part — rooftop view of downtown Seattle. Not to mention, the place is in a shaded and rustic community, mere blocks from the Red Lion Hotel, and five minutes walking distance from a supermarket. It’s all so brilliant, too brilliant. Quite ridiculous. If I ever move and return to Seattle, I am going to have to really consider this place. A one bedroom apartment is roughly $900, but with all of that stuff, I think I will be likely persuaded to lease. All in all, just seeing a place like that and taking in the environment juxtaposed against the University District was eye opening enough.

There is a mass migration and change in everyone’s life at this point. I am grateful to be a part of it and realize the metamorphosis around me. After graduation, we were all initially in our honeymoon stage where we were still aloof to the fact that we were free. Totally and utterly free. Though now we have grown to understand that the world is our oyster (apologies for the cliche remark). We have all become unafraid of pursuing what we want out of life, and thus everyone is taking the steps to becoming true adults in every sense of the word.

I can only wonder who these people I have come to know will become down the line, but I rest assured that they will be ones I will have had the privilege of calling my friends. I have already built up the groundwork for a strong network for the future. In the end, today was such an epiphany, and honestly, the best day that I have had in a very long while.
