All choked up over Christmas

Listening to different renditions of ‘I’ll Be Home for Christmas’ is getting me all teary-eyed. I remember last year, I spent it in Seattle working in a dead-end job, somewhat loathing myself for not achieving more, and unable to leave because I was required there for the busy season. Step into the future, and now, I am so thankful in having the opportunity to travel back for even just a few days.

How could I ever have spent a full year away from family? I shock myself and wonder how driven (or selfish) I could really be to have done such a thing. I am not sure if I even wrote an entry back then, but the lyrics to this song are very fitting. “I’ll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams.” Unbelievably stirring.

Though this time it’s different. I can resolve to do so much in the coming year and for the rest of my life for self-improvement, but really, I just want to enjoy my time there without over thinking it. Really cannot wait to just sit there and see familiar faces. I just want to bask in the company of family.

Career-minded epiphany

Feeling around other agencies and portfolios tonight. Seems like I’m not as big of a shit as I originally thought. Well…in my age range I am. But that phase is over. I compete against over a million other candidates at this point, and once again, I have to step up my game by a thousand fold.

That means a lot more hard work on my part. Stop resting on complacency. Enhance my portfolio to a point that doesn’t hesitate to shame and embarrass others. Time to kill and inherit a mindset of ruthlessness.

…though I wonder. Is this the right mentality I should be adopting? Why am I always so focused on bettering my career. Aren’t there other important things in life? Though it seems like work is what I’m best at. Why not excel at it? Whatever. It seems like things are just falling in place like this in my life. Even going out of my way to pushing a lifestyle shift has yielded paltry response.

If life gives you lemons – make lemonade. Don’t go out of your way to try and squeeze eggs benedict out from that shit.
